Champagne-like chalk soils, sheltered Surrey Hills countryside and, in a good year, plenty of sunshine have helped Surrey Vineyards to lead the way in English wines and challenge traditional wine producers around the world.

Vineyards of the Surrey Hills is a group of beautiful wineries who excel in producing outstanding wines from the North Downs.

Easy to find and reach, just 20 miles from London, why not hire Coco and enjoy a couple of days wine tasting and stay at some of the idyllic campsites that this region has to offer.

Greyfriars Vineyard, Puttenham, Surrey

Greyfriars Vineyard and winery is located on the sunny south facing chalk slopes of the Hog's Back at Puttenham. Originally planted in 1989, the vineyard now covers almost 50 acres on 3 sites and specialises in producing English Sparkling Wine using grapes from Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. There are also vines with Pinot Gris and Sauvignon Blanc. Winery tours are available by appointment.

Chilworth Manor Vineyard, Chilworth, Surrey

A family owned vineyard situated below St Martha's Church and adjacent to Chilworth Manor which produces sparkling wine and still rose. The vineyard was established in 2013 with the expert help of renowned wine consultant, Stephen Skelton and 11,000 vines were planted the following year. Similar to Garyfriars, grape varieties are mainly Pinot Meunier, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

Unfortunately, due to on site work, there are no tours this year but wine can still be purchased online and collected from the vineyard.

Albury Organic vineyard, Albury Surrey

Another family run winery, Albury vineyard is situated upon the southern slopes of the North Downs just outside Guildford on the A25 towards Dorking. The vines are the traditional Champagne varieties of Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier as well as some Serval and Pinot Gris. The vineyard is committed to producing wines without the use of chemicals and are renowned for their Silent Pool Rose.

The vineyard, tasting room and shop will open in March, while vineyard tours a re due to begin in May this year.

High Clandon, East Clinton, Surrey

High Clinton Estate Vineyard was founded by Sibylla and Bruce Tindale in 2004 to feed a passion for creating a quintessential English quality sparkling wine in the beautiful rolling downs of the Surrey Hills.

Their multi-award winning 'Quintessence' is crafted from the classic trio of Champagne grapes - Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay, created in the traditional method - method Champenoise.

You can book a wine tasting tour and talk which includes a fascinating talk by the owners, a tour of the gardens and vineyard and tastings of both wine, gin and their own honey.

Denbies Wine Estate

Located in the heart of Surrey overlooking Box Hill, Denbie's was established in 1986 and is one of England's largest vineyards. Family owned and run, the vineyard has become a benchmark of wine making excellence, producing a range of internationally award-winning still and spelling wines, red, white and rose.

Indoor wine tasting tours and outside vineyard train tours take place daily. On site their is an art gallery, shopping, brewery, vineyard hotel, local farm shop, restaurants, well being centre and bike hire. A truly all weather destination.
